And Another One Down...

On Friday June 14, 2002 at a packed standing-room only Apache Cafe' in Atlanta, GA, music lovers were treated by Tastemakers DJs to a barage of energetic performances hosted by Eddie Meeks and Mello Melanin of Prophetix and Dres Tha Beatnik of 4 Kings Entertainment. DJ Fudge and DJ Jon Doe held the music down between sets. Opening for the night was Chicago's own Nova Cain performing songs from his debut album Diplomatic Immunity. It was his first time coming to ATL ever and he definitely gave a solid performance to be remembered.

The main act for the night was none other than Detroit's Slum Village. T3, Baatin, and the newest member of SV, Elzhi, rocked tunes from "Fantastic. Vol 2" and from their upcoming album "Trinity". The crowd participation was lovely as the artists rarely had to say any of their versus because the audience knew most of the songs. The highlight of the night was when SV performed "Raise It Up" and people who were just talking outside of the club rushed in to join in the madness with the rest of the crowd. Needless to say...Slum Village tore it down!!!

Prophetix closed the night out with a few songs from their up coming album "High Risk!" Heads in the audience were nodding uncontrollably when Meeks and Mello set off "Who Is This?" DJ Jon Doe was on point cutting up the phrase "Who Is This? Jon Doe, Mello Melanin, and Big Meeks!" The 3 man crew rocked for a few minutes then shut the stage down after performing their #1 hit "True Urban Grit (T.U.G.)."

"Hosting the show as well as performing gave us a bit of advantage because the crowd had been seeing us on stage all night so by the time we performed they were open and receptive to our music," states Mello.

Upcoming shows for Prophetix include Underground Starving Artists show in Charlotte, NC on July 27. The show will also feature Scienz Of Life, Stahhr Tha F.E.M.C.E.E., Lost N Found Department, Grizz Lo.
