Prophetix is truly INTERNATIONAL!!! After being added last week to the #1 record pool in Los Angeles, The Heavyweights (www.heavyweights.org), AND the #1 Hiphop radio show and record pool in Tokyo, Japan, Joint One (www.jointone.com), Jon Doe has surfaced in London, England. This is a review from Spine Magazine about his latest mix CD. Big up Joey Slick, Kenton Wong, Truly OdD, Monalisa Murray, T.K., and Divine for looking out. Enjoy the review....
Jon Doe 'All About The Doe Vol.1'
Reviewed In Spine Magazine
(http://www.spinemagazine.com/db/Mixtapes/)
Rating 8/10
Doe (or dough) is a strange word – it has several meanings, which in turn has enabled Atlanta based Prophetix producer Jon Doe to use this to his full advantage. Is the doe reference to do with a bready cake mixture made from dry ingredients, a female deer - or perhaps a slang word associated with money? – I dunno, but what I do know is that this CD is hotness.
So, what’s on then, I hear you ask? Well, things kick off rather nicely with the elusive new De La Soul 'Much More' 12” cut up nicely, swiftly followed by the soon-to-be-massive Jaylib track ‘The Red’ which is amazing. Need some thugness? – look no further than Capone N Noreaga's 'Cheers' (and yes they are rapping over the TV theme of the same name), Scarface also shows up with 'Snitch Nigga'.
Other artists included in the mix include the UK’s own Planets featuring Prince Po, Madvillian (Madlib & MF Doom) with the highly anticipated 'America's Most Blunted', Gang Starr, Binkis, Prince Paul, Jay Dee and of course Prophetix!
Most rap mixtapes (or CD's in most cases these days) I buy seem to fall into about 3 general categories these days – 'urban' party bangers, 1989 rap obscurities and scratchy turntablist business. Jon has managed to tread the thin line between major label and indie joints with success with 'All About The Doe' Vol.1 – which is a pre-curser to his forthcoming 'Meet Jon Doe' production LP later this year. For more info check www.meetjondoe.com.
To hear some of the hottest exclusive tracks out now, you the reader are recommended to purchase this CD immediately. (UK heads – note that this is available at www.rootdownrecords.com or trusty old Mr Bongo’s).

Back in effect and definitely affecting the ATL fresh from the 1st ever Hiphop Appreciation Week Awards Banquet! Now that's history! The banquet was cool. Asylum Entertainment was nominated for Entrepreneur of the Year and Prophetix was nominated for Activist of the Year. We didn't win either one but it was cool anyway because when they flashed the Prophetix logo on the overhead screen Meeks and I just bugged out. Free Publicity!!! It was also cool because celebs were in the house...besides Prophetix of course...lol. Jalil from Whodini was there as well as Arrested Development. Afeni Shakur gave the keynote speech and it was great. It was about having hope. The event as a whole was a success. Big ups to the Dee Dee Cocheta, Sai Browne, and the planning committee for making this event possible. Be sure to check out www.templeofhiphop.org.
The next Prophetix show will be in honor of Hiphop Appreciation Week on May 24th at the Apex Museum on Auburn Ave. I'll have to hit you later with a time. Until then...holla at a playa when you see me in the street trick!!!!!! |

Whaddup Y'all? After a few days of steadily being on the road we have a couple of days of rest. We hit Santa Cruz on Friday, San Diego on Saturday, and San Jose on Sunday and we were back to Hollywood on Monday. Lots of driving but definitely worth it. The show have been live! People getting on the stage from the crowd during the show really trip me out. For some strange reason it makes the show liver!
We just picked another show for tomorrow Wednesday night in Encino, CA at a club called Stevie's. Show time is at 9:30pm. The club is on Ventura Blvd. The event is called Universal Nights sponsored by Universal Music. This should be interesting. ;-) Big ups Shelly O'Neil for the hook up!
Stay tuned... |

| Aight! Last night we rocked at the World Famous House of Blues in Anaheim, CA. It was pretty live. These crowds are definitely coming out to see KRS-One. Talk about longevity! Today we are taking a break from the stage but of course the work don't stop. Big ups to Shelly at Rootz Media. We had lunch on the beach with her today. Very powerful. Tomorrow we head to Santa Cruz, Saturday we head down to San Diego, then Sunday we are back up to San Jose...lots of driving but definitely worth it! One... |

On the Road Again...That's gonna have to be my theme song for 2003 til infinity folks. The shows are moving pretty quickly.
It's about 5am here in Hollywood, CA. We just finished playing the Key Club on the Sunset Blvd. Lovely! The crowd was packed. Santa Barbara was off the chain as well on Monday night. Later tonight (Wednesday) we are rockin' the House of Blues in Anaheim, CA.
The show at the Key Club was hotness from start to finish. KRS-One changed the show format about 10 times it seemed like before the show and it was lovely because there were dancers...breakers from LA and pop-lockers from Oakland. I can't wait to get to the Bay Area!
Driving up and down the coast of California has been real cool and relaxing. The scenery is dope on the 101 Freeway.
We'll keep you posted on the happs.
Hiphop is real y'all.
Don't forget Hiphop Appreciation Week May 18 - 25 all over the globe! Check out www.templeofhiphop.org for more info. |
